Charlie's response: JAP (SCPH number ends in 0); Americas (1); Aus/NZ (2); UK/IRL (3); Europe (4); HK (6); Asia (7); Russia (8). I'm not sure if there is a 5. The 2,3,4,8 models all play PAL games but the 2 & 4 models have a different DVD region from the 3 & 4 models. The JAP. Americas and Asian models play NTSC games. The first PS2 started with motherboard GH-001 (the Jap v0) and we are now at GH-023 (commonly known as v9).

2/What are the differences between other versions?Which is the best?
Charlie's response: You should buy the PS2 that applies to your DVD region. You can generally only buy v9s now (GH-023)

3/How many manufacturer of PS2 modchip and modchip are there?
Charlie's response: A Dozen or so.

4/What are the differences between other modchips?Which is the best?
Charlie's response: Generally DMS3 and Messiah2 are reckoned to be best but there are good reports about Magic V and others in this forum.

    5/What does "SPCH-xxxxxx" mean?What does V1,V2...Vx mean?
Charlie's response: SCPH-50000 is Jap; 50001 is US; 50002 is Aus/NZ; 50003 is UK/Ireland; 50004 is mainland Europe; 50006 is Hong Kong; 50007 is Asia; 50008 is Russia. The 50 series is generically dubbed v9. 3900x series is dubbed v7 or v8 according to other factors. Too complex to go into here.

6/Is it necessary to upgrade my/your modchip?
Charlie's response: No modchip can be upgraded directly for major PS2 changes. i.e. yopu can't carry a modchip over from a v7 to a v9 PS2 if the modchip wasn't compatible with v9. The DMS3 is upgradeable for its additional software functions that are not related to the guts of modchip operation.

7/Is it possible to replace a modchip once it's installed?
Charlie's response: Yes - just take it out and all the wires making sure you clean up properly or else the PS2 won't work.

7+/ Can I ask more next time?
    Charlie's response: NO!
