Questions about what to look for in buying a ps2
Questions about what to look for in buying a ps2 –
I'm planning on going to gamestop or somewhere and picking up a new(figuratively) fatty ps2. What should I be looking for in candidate consoles.
I just went through that process, myself, a few weeks ago. It was in a pawnshop, though, not in Gamestop. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the model numbers, as the fattys are all old now. Just make sure the unit can be tested in store before you buy it. Test if a DVD game (silver back) can boot, and also a CD game (blue back) if you want the independence exploit to run fine. If you find such a unit, buy it. They are somewhat uncommon. The clerk at the pawnshop tested six or seven fatty PS2s before he could find one that could boot the CDs. It was a v5, which I bought. I also have my original v7 in good condition. I just wanted a backup machine.
v9(SCPH-5000x) and up would be maybe the best fat PS2, since it has all that older has, plus IR receiver and progressive scan playback in DVD movies.
