I have a version 11 or the last version non-slim to hit the us market (scph-50001)

anyway a buddy of mine has a v13 slim and said he had been told he cant chip his v13 because modchips burn out the laser as the v13 has the weakest laser.

    anytruth to this?

I think your friend is confused; the V12 (SCPH-700XX CB) as that one will burn out lasers if you don't apply the "slim fix" PCB.

But all PS2 lasers are pretty much garbage anyways and die, at least the slim ones are cheaper and lenschanger makes swapping easy.

v13 you should be fine, just use some good media as with all ps2s, and you can get those lasers super cheap if they do burn up

while we're chatting, I know there used to be a device for PS1 memory cards called the data dex. Anything similar that works with ps2 cards?

Check out uLaunchELF it has the most complete MC management. You can backup to the PS2 HDD, a USB pen drive, or send the save over your network via FTP or the host protocol.

    It's very handy.
