The laser in my V7 finally took a dump so I got a replacement. Popped it in last night and it won't boot DVD-RW (Memorex) or CD-R (Sony and Verbatim). All originals boot fine so I thought maybe something on the install came loose. Strangely DVD-R backups work fine... Can anyone give me some things to try here? Keep in mind, before the original laser crapped EVERYTHING booted perfectly.
Did you just drop in the laser or did you install it and adjust it properly? After I replaced mine it needed MINOR tweaking to get it to read all media properly.Quote:

There is a way but i think it's only on certain versions. I have a V4 and i have done it no problem. if you look to the back of the drive there is a white plastic gear that can be rotated cw and ccw adjusting the focal length. i know in my friends recently bought ps2 it is setup different and doesn't look like that so i don't know on them.
Try a audio cd and if that dont play you may need to tweak the laser, but be vary careful so you dont turn the pot to much.
