Didnt meen to get under your teeth [prisoner1138]. All i'm saying is that i dont like the idea of big companies ripping off gullible joe public. Ativo product like this would be almost half the price if u bought the components seperately. ie- pick up a regular ps2 (price is bound to crash with the release of the psx) and pick up a dvd recorder(philips makes smashing models which can play mp3s, dvds, vcds, tv tuner etc). your looking at about 400$ here compared to 700+ for psx!

Maybe its just me- but if i see a psx in anyones home- the guys got too much money and should donate to charity more, or he doesnt have enough grey cells to amount to much anyway!

say what? a ps2 is 180, a dvd burner is gonna be another 180, and then another 200 for a tivo box, and that still doesnt include the pc that the dvd burner is in, plus linking the tivo box to the pc across the lan, and those set top burners cost an arm and a leg and last i recall didnt have any real tivo like functionality.

you arent losing any money. it's an all in one box that costs as much as an all in one box and eliminates at least 2 others from having to sit in your entertainment center. PLUS, anyone that already had the other stuff in the first place would be a fool to buy this, but then again the same could be said for the people that ran out and bought v9 ps2s to repalce their v6's that replaced their v2's.

if it doesnt sell, sony gets screwed.if it does sell im sure the people willing to spend $700 on it will be perfectly happy with it. even regular joe schmoe isnt dumb enough to buy this thing for no apparent reason.

and why would the cost of the ps2 change at all with the release of this? they aren't the same product, they arent even competing products. one is a ps2, one is a multiple function piece of consumer electronics.

this is getting nowhere. So u agree that theres no point buying this thing if uve got a decent knowledge of consumer elecrtronics- wasnt that what i was getting at in the first place.

And there are really good multifunction entertainment systems that will do everything the psx can except play ps2 games. So if u buy a ps2 and a philips dvd entertainment centre seperately u still save a couple hundred bucks.

the psx is an upgrade to the ps2. it will eventualy replace it. The ps2 price is going to hit rock bottom very very soon. So i'm selling my ps2 while i can still get money for it. Its on ebay if u're interested

The only thing the PSX has to do with PS2 is that it plays the games. It's not even released by SCEI or under the Playstation brand.

It won't replace the PS2 but is for people who want an all-in-one system, similar to Panasonic and the Panasonic Q.

dvd came out and turned vcd and cd almost obselete- and guess what- cd/vcd player prices crashed.

ps2 came out and ps1. hey u dont need to be a rocket scientist to figure this out.

psx is out and can do exactly what the ps2 can and more... its not exactly nuclear physics. Simple economics.
By jan u wont get 50 quid for your ps2

fine fine. Got me there. Sweet piece of machinery. Ok if i had 700 clams to throw away course i'd buy it. unfortunately i dont. so i'll get all my parts at the pawn shop and slap together my own tivo!

    And it'll be great.

exactly, it wont affect the cost of the ps2 at all because it isnt meant as a replacement for it. maybe if it was priced in the $400 range perhaps, but its not.

but, sony wants to make expensive toys, let 'em. people who spend $700 on something to stick on top of their tv usually know what it is they're buying.

ok fine. if a guy wants to spend 700 quid on an entertainmetn centre... why not. His money. Pity the fool.

but i'm still betting that sony is banking on the psx as a replacement to the ps2. trying to outdo xbox with their hdd. uping the stakes a bit.

they are gonna make their money from guys who like to buy new toys and then the psx price will go down and they'll kill off the ps2.

its inevitable- otherwise why bundle the ps2 gaming abilities into the entertainment centre.

I'm still picking up the philips dvd recorder- for audio and visual equipment i dont trust anybody else.
