That would be pretty cool if it actually looked like that. Hopefully we'll still be able to burn ps3's cd's.

Well, if it uses blu ray (hopefully not!!) then I'm sure it will make it WAY tougher for modchips and copies.

On the look of that drawing...UGLY. I'm SOOOOO glad that that concept drawing has been "released" because that gets rid of one more crappy idea of what the PS3 *could have* been!

Personally, I'd like to see the PS3 look something a little more "rounded off" than the PS2 is, but not too "spacey", still retaining some "edges". Yep...I'm picky....but I'm sure sony and microsoft will somehow make sure their designs are badass...

I believe it has already been announced that the PS3 will use blu ray. You should be happy about this. They will be able to make huge games this way. But for backup purposes it sucks.

How much bigger do you want a game...and do you honestly think that they'll put more than 5 times as much game on a blu ray disc??? That would take MUCH longer for them to make the game, and in the end it would be a waste of media if they didn't take that long.

I think that blu ray will be something like on the side of the PS3...but the main media used will be DVD's. So, I think it'll be compatible with blu ray, but won't use it until such a thing is necessary. It has NOT been decided it will be used. Ken Kuratagi (founder of the playstation) has been apointed head of the blu ray project however...so that leads to some speculation that they'll use blu ray...

By the way, if you've seen a blu ray disc-cartridge thingy, they are UGLY!! ughhh....bring on the dvd's until PS4, I say....

Blu ray can hold more data. At first, this will mean either longer games, or more movies. But in the long run, once the full capabilities of the hardware are exploited, that's usually towards the end of the system's life, the larger capacity means richer and better graphics.

I personally hope one of the upcoming consoles start to use real-time rendering.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.

    What's real time rendering?

Well, blu ray would ensure 100% safety for sony from piracy so an era will be coming to a close if they use that. But, I still think it will be a sort of "addon" and won't be the main media source, because PS3 will be going up against Xbox 2(using dvd's) and Gamecube 2 (using those mini-disc things), so the PS3 would be "wierd" if it used blu ray. I'm placing my bet on sony just using dvd's.

I'd definitely agree with BackupWorld on this. I think Blue Ray discs will be an add on, and won't be used much....Kind of like DVD9 on ps2. They are there, but they aren't used much...Who in the hell is going to make a game that BIG? WHy in the hell do they need a game That BIG? How many movies could it possibly have?! Just look at Xenosaga ("the movie"...I mean the game... ) Damn thing full of movies (some of the longest movies i've ever seen in my life-I would die sometimes right after a BIG movie, and have to watch it again cuz I saved right before the movie!!!! . SOme of those movies...I could take a bath, bruth my teeth, shave, go wash off the car, and probaly go for a run...WHen I got back they'd end (not much sarcasm in that....)
SO, if in fact they ever make a game that has 40 GB!!! I gonna quit playing playstation cuz I don't have all that time to be messing around with all those movies....AND I don't beleive actual Gameplay has anything to do with how big it is...Just check out FFX (pretty long game in my opinion, and that fit fine on Reg. DVD).
If a 40 GB game would ever come out...It'd take probaly 500 Hours to beat (at least), and be full of enough movies, once you got done you could have already watched at least a few regular 2 hour movies.
AND The COST!!! Would be InCredIble!

I really think SOny is blowing smoke when it comes to something like Blue Ray discs...I don't doubt that it could be an option...But the developers actually making a game that BIG? I DOn't think so! Unless they'd put 30 GB of Dummy files

I don't really think they'll just use "DVD roms" though. They'll be something different...I'm just not sure what. And i'm sure the console will be badass...Now that they got some competition with XBox and GC...Can't wait to see all the shit.

I think it would be an advantage to use blue ray discs. The games won't necessarily be longer. They will be able to hold more data, as a result less compression will have to be used to make the game fit onto one disc, resulting in being able to use its processing power to the max. Which means better graphics. If the new cube and box keep using the discs they use now, I think it will hurt them in the next console war.

it won't hurt them if ps3 uses primarily dvd's...

Moving on to the speculated PRICE of the systems. Some peple say it'll be $400 and others say $150. It's pretty amazing how people can think one way or the other. Personally, I think the consoles will debut at $300-$350 just like this generation--especially with all the hardware they're gonna be packin' in these suckaz.

Ain't no way it's gonna be $150. Sorry, budget-minded people.
