Hi, I rember reading a little while ago that the PS3 Copy Protection was going to make to so a game say you buy once you boot it up in your system, that game will only work on your system. Is this true? If not what is the PS3's Copy Protection besides Blu-Ray Discs which will be be able to be copyed.

That's crazy talk. Then you wouldn't be able to bring your games to friends houses to play, and wouldn't be able to buy and sell used games. Unless the PS3 has some sort of DVD burner on it to put some unique key on the disc locking it to your console like the xbox and it's HDD, and I doubt that Sony would go that far to copy protect their games.

My guess (and it's nothing more than that) is that they'll use MagicGate-based signing and encryption for program code, with a game-specific part of the decryption key hidden on the disc in some form that isn't readable or writable with a conventional BD writer (I expect that the BD spec will have a reserved area for copy protection / access control schemes). Sony's top priority with these schemes is and always has been not to stop casual warez with recordable discs, but to impede large-scale counterfeiting operations and unlicensed publishing in general. It probably hasn't escaped their notice that there's no Xbox Action Replay/Gameshark/Codebreaker (well, there is a product called "Action Replay", but it's just a transfer device for hacked saves), and it's probably not for lack of consumer interest. Thus I expect that they'll largely imitate Xbox's scheme, but done in their own way within their own framework (i.e. MagicGate, which they've already tested to some degree on PS2 and implemented in their other products such as Memory Stick).

That technology sounds just like the PS2's, Sony has to know that the system WILL be hacked, their hasn't been 1 system that hasn't been hacked.
