this article confuses me and in the beginning it says that people are saying that the system will be this price and others wont. I dont think even sony knows sincethey said that they might have to redeisgn the system since they havent found all the parts for it yet. I dont think people should be counting the price so long before it comes out. I also heard that ps3 isnt going to be at e3 for some reason in one of my game informers i think. And here in the article its talking about the ps3 at e3. Two different stories and no real answer
that article doesnt knwo for sure cause it says Is Sony going to launch the playstation 3 in US for $399? and one guy says no and PSM says yes so i dont think its for sure could be though to even up competetion wid xbox 360
C'mon guys...$399? Blu-Ray? System already said to be "expensive" by Sony itself?
It will *at least* $499.
bd players are expected to be sold for 1k to 1.5kusd, and if sony sells ps3 with bd playback ability, it will be a blow to the bd player makers who also backs up bd format.
if sony really sells ps3 @ 400usd, it will NOT play bd movies;
ms is loosing tons of money on xbox360 @300 & 400usd even without the fancy bd drive. compare to ps3, xbox360 can be built for far cheaper than ps3.
xbox360 uses cheaper ddr3 gdram & very small die size cpu & gpu + other components are off shelf parts while ps3 is using bd drive & xdr rdram which is far more expensive to build & requires more expensive pcb + rsx & cell processors are very expensive to build as they have very big die size.
i also heard that ps3 might be either very very noisy or a lot bigger than that sony shows us as there are tons of thermal management problems. remember overheating problems of some initial batches of xbox360? sony is considering to redesign the case to have better thermal property
recently released toshiba hd dvd player is also very loud & generates tons of heat & bd will be no better for while.
ps3 game's physics will probably be better than xbox360, but ai will be worse on ps3. it is very possible to have very buggy games for ps3 & will be expensive as i heard that pressed bd single layer production has around 70% rejection rate
anyway, if ps3 is like 399 including hdd & linux, it would be interesting as i could use ps3 as a 2nd pc
i think i will stick with pc & ps2 for at least 2 years
Keep in mind that Sony has a small advantage because they are using a lot of parts that they at least partly designed themselves and can somewhat make on their own. Microsoft, being a software company, has to pay all of these companies to make all the hardware for them.
And I agree. The PS1 was good enough for me for years after the PS2 came out, and my to-play list of PS2 games right now is so big I shouldn't even be reading these next-gen articles.![]()
PSM confirmed later that it was purely speculation. The PS3's price is absolutely NOT confirmed as of now. And it won't be until August or even later, most probably.
lol... it seems my brother was reading that article afew days ago. he got into a straight arguement with me saying that the ps3 was going for $200. now i no for a fact the bluray is 2x's that amount. not to mention i have been into the playstation world since the first one and know about chips and stuff. and...... he never owned a single gaming console. i dont know why i wasted my breath on him![]()

I think it will be 400$-500$ but what about the games? X360 Games are 60$ a piece!
