I just bought a used PS2 from Gamestop and I noticed that upon ejecting any game the console won't reboot, it stays in the game and if the game is currently using the disc it will freeze up. Is this normal or should the PS2 reset when I press the eject button.

It is the FAT version of the console. Model: SCPH-50001

Anyone know what could be causing this problem? The sticker on the console that shows whether its been opened doesn't appear to be damaged so I don't think the PS2 has been opened.

You have to push the power button to reset the system. The eject button only ejects the tray.

So I can just swap discs in the middle of a game without using a swap card, just by pressing the eject button?

When you eject the disc the system will not reset but the disc drive WILL be reset causing it to re-check the next disc you insert. Swap cards work by forcing the tray out without the disc drive hardware detecting the change.
