PS2 w/ broken dvd drive - can I resurrect it with freemcboot?
PS2 w/ broken dvd drive - can I resurrect it with freemcboot? –
I just dug up my old ps2 that has a disc read error when trying to run DVD's. It still reads CD's just fine.
Can I use freemcboot + HDloader to sideload my games?
I know how to get freemcboot installed using my friends working PS2. From reading hdloader tutorials I found that I wuold need a trigger cd in the PS2 drive to load the ISO games from the harddrive. If so, can I use a ps1 games to be the trigger disc since my ps2 reads CD games, or has that trigger limitation been worked around by now?
The only IDE harddrive i found is 40gb (like 10 games :/). Can i rotate my games on the harddrive using FTP, or I am stuck physically moving the hard drive?
**I am not trying to pirate anything. And if this cannot be openly discussed, PM me. I just want to find out before wasting my time and money instead of junking this thing.
If you can get Free McBoot installed onto a memory card, you would no longer need a trigger disc of any kind. It will load at boot and allow you to launch homebrew. HDLoader is outdated so I would suggest using Open PS2 Loader (OPL) instead, it has higher compatibility, it is still being updated and it can load games from more devices.
You can always swap games that are on the hard drive, you aren't as confined as you would be using discs. However please note that installing games over FTP is kind of slow so you will find it annoying swapping games that are on your hard drive.
