PS2 Virgin... Super Noob
I'm an Xbox expert; been chippin' and softmodding them for over a year... installing and customizing dashboards... the whole 9 yards. But with PS2 - I just got one - I know jack about them.
Can you softmod them? Is it just chips only?
Where's the IDE cables for the hard drive?
What are the USB ports for?
Can you save your games to the hard drive and play them from there?
Are there dashboards and such?
Thanks for any help,
Super Noob

Wow...that's a lot of questions...
Yes, search for independance exploit (only for the fat ps2's). Slim ps2's need a chip.
The ide connection is on the network adapter.
Usb devices like light guns, headsets, cam's, etc...can also be used for flash drives and hdd's with some non-sony programs like usbadvance and maxmemory.
You can copy your saves to hdd for backup, but not load them from there unless you have a chip that supports atad patching and the game supports it.
No dashboards are available like they are for xbox, but there are plenty of programs out there that work like an independant OS. They have to be loaded from the exploit, modchip or some other method.

installing chip on ps2 is like doing 2-19 do points on the xbox depending on what version ps2 you have..
Also you can go the cheap rout and buy swap disk's but they are a pain in the asss and many games need to be patched just to work with it..

Thanks for the heads up; it'll give me more of an idea of what I'm talking about when asking around... :)
