PS2 V9 read error DVD problems
PS2 V9 read error DVD problems –
Hi there , I have a PS2 V9 chipped with a DMS3V9 chip.
I've had the console since last February, I had it chipped by a professional.
Now my current problem is the PS2 V9 is not reading DVD's anymore, and I've opened it up and cleaned the lens (It made no difference), yet it still reads CD's, I also can still boot memory card apps and games off my hard drive.
This console doesn't have the romeo mod either. (but I don't think its the V9/V10 syndrome)
Does anyone have any idea's on what the problem may be? and how I can go about fixing it?
Does it read PS1 games? If it does then your LA chip is probably fine. It is odd for your laser to wear out especially when it is a V9. One thing your professional installer could've done if it was the laser that the problem is... switch your laser with his old one. If he did this then you're pretty much screwed.
Hmm, well I know it boots homebrew stuff from cd, like faplink. havent tryed PS1 games yet
I don't think the person that I got it from would be that underhanded, to replace the laser with a older one. but its possable I suppose, I was hoping it could be possably somthing to do with a wire coming loose on the DVD controller..
Is it possable for the LA on the PS2 only to burn out for DVD's and not CD's?
Uhm, I don't think that's possible. The LA is a laser tracking and focus controller, if it's able to perform on cd then it should be able to perform on dvd. If I'm wrong, correct me but I believe I'm correct. If it can track/focus a cd, the laser should be fine.
It is hard for me to believe solder points to just fall off after couple months. You can open and check though.
Actually i had that happen to me back in the psx days. And it happens to me every so often with other stuff i've soldered but not very often. I suggest giving it to the person that modded it for u and have them take a look at it.
