    Hi,

I have a modded PS2 (DMS3) which was working fine, until...

Some CLUMSY FOOL tripped over the wires and flung it to the floor. Since then, the CD/DVD drive has stopped reading the discs properly. I'll elaborate:

When a disc is inserted, the laser moves and tries to focus, then the motor on the drive turns, but only VERY briefly - the disk just moves maybe 1/2 to 1 turn.

That's it. nothing more. The PS2 thinks no disc is inserted and just goes to the browser. The DMS3 is still fine (can boot to Dev.olution mode etc), and the PS2 seems otherwise fine...

Now, my laser unit was a bit dodgy before, so co-incidentally I had ordered a replacement unit. However I'm not sure that this is the problem, or whether it's some other part of the drive mechanics/electronics. As soon as the new laser arrives I'll try it, but in the meantime does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

That sound similar to what my ps2 has been doing, yet my ps2 was never hit or nudged. What do you mean by your laser ebing dodgy before?

I mean my ps2 is 3 years old and it wasn't so good at reading discs - often went to the browser screen before booting and needed regular cleaning to ensure it loaded games.

I am starting to suspect the BA chips - still haven't received the replacement laser so I can't swap it out yet.

Anyone know what the symptoms of a blown BA are?

Would it make sense that the motor turns for a 1/4 turn and then stops?

Also, on a V3 (PAL) the BAs are not on the mainboard but near on the CD board itself - is that right?

    Thanks.
