ps2 startup problems

Well, after working well for a while with backup and regular games, my ps2 won't load either of them. Its a Pstwo (slim), I use swap magic 3.3 and a tape-mod. What happens is I'll turn on the ps2, it will slowly spin the disc and try to read it, and then it'll stop and go to the browser screen. It does this with backup and real games. I've read about the flip top not being held down enough, and tried that. I've heard it could be a problem with ribbon cables, but didn't feel confident enough to mess with them without more of an explanation or some pics. Thanks in advance for your time.

You open it up and tape down the two sensors that detect when the cover is open so you can open it and change cds for swapmagic.

i did hear that the flip top isnt good to use for the pstwo
