PS2 Slim no sound.... –
08-15-2011,05:36 AM
I just got my PS2 slim and was pretty excited. I plugged in everything and turned on the console but there was no sound.
I asked some guy at a game store and he said that I have to plug in all the colored cords (yellow, white, red) into the matching colored ports on the tv. (Is that correct?)
The problem is my tv only have two ports (yellow and white). It's kinda strange because I have an xbox and gamecube and both of them work fine without plugging in the red cord.
What can I do about this to make my ps2 slim have sound on my tv?

I would try to use the red in the white port maybe you have a bad cord but you are using a mono tv so white or red should work fine

I've tried that. Still same result. I took it down to the tv in the living room, which has a red port and it worked! So, I've determined that my ps2 slim is picky and wants all three colored cords plugged in to work. >.< (Are all ps2 slim like this?) I know it's not a problem with my tv because my xbox and gamecube work fine using just the yellow and white ports.
How can I make it work on my tv? Is there a way?

I have never experienced that problem with my PS2 slim or fat maybe the cord was lose on back of PS2 when you moved it
I have 2 tv with only mono ports yellow white
I would try again myself and make sure the plug in back of PS2 is flush with the back of port
that it worked with yellow white read but not with other TV with white or red alone

I've tried several times. It doesn't work but I think what might be the problem. My tv has two pair of yellow and white ports. I already have my xbox plugged in. Maybe if I remove it and leave the ps2 as the only system plugged into my tv then it will have sound?

Try putting the white plug in all the white ports then try putting the red plug in all the white ports and also move the cord around gently in case its an old cord and some connections arent being made. Because the ps2 works on the other tv I would say its the tv, but because the xbox and gamecube work on the mono tv i"d say its the ps2 cord, it doesnt really make sense. To have sound you only need one audio cable plugged in(but ofcourse it'll be mono sound) A/V cords 99% of the time are exactly the same, the ps2 doesnt care what is plugged in it still sends the signal. It can be annoying but ya just gotta try everything.

Update: I've found the culprit of the problem, it's because the PS2 and Xbox don't wanna get along. Both systems will be muted if they're both plugged in, but if one of the systems is unplugged, the one that remains plugged in will have sound.
I'm guessing I will have to buy a switch box for to have them both plugged in and working.
Edit: I've found that I can leave them both plugged into the TV but to have sound I would have to unplugged the powercord of one system when using the other.
My problem is solved now. Thanks for trying to help guys!

Dony worry is just because of a cheapy hardware cut from your tv manufacturer.
The plugs share the same circuit and some signals are not compatible, that never happens in a good tv set.
