PS2 slim model scph70012 laser does not read. replaced laser and ribbon

I have a PS2 slim that has not been used much and it was started scratching disks. After looking into it i noticed the laser ribbon was scratching them. i replace the ribbon and the laser now would not read says no data. i removed the anti static point i got most of the solder off. the laser comes on red so i guess i got enough off.i Reseated the connections and replaced with another ribbon but same result. i got a new laser and same thing. the laser moves and put out the red light. it will not play dvd,cd or games. what am i misssing just want my kids to be able to play games and dvds in the living room. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's not a direct answer to your questions, but you can start your games from other devices than the discs (look at the top of every page, where 'Free MC Boot' and 'Open PS2 Loader' are linked to...).
