I got this used slim for 12 USDollars (in my currency, offcourse) without anything, no MC no pads, no power cord.

thats not problem, couse i have two power sources and two RGB Scart cables, one in my bedroom, and one in living room. So i only took PS" from room to room, depends where i wanna use it. (mostly, in living room i play games with my two sons, and in bedroom, i watch movies ith my wife).

So, i got this really cheap, couse its half broken. It can be turned on, it works, today i tested it, i can watch movies on it from my USB, and I even started one game from USB, just to see is it everything OK with processor or whatever it going games and movies to work.

But it doesnt wanna spin the disk. What do you, people who work a lot with PS2, think what is broken? Laser, motor, is it in one pack, or its divided laser from motor? Can it be found on ebay? how old it might be, 70003, wich version is that, what i must look for?

And the other question is, couse a game started from USB over USBAdvance, is it like to that console have modchip, or not? Or the modchip is important only for the games from the disk?

Thank you all for your time, and trouble for reading my bad english, im aware that its not so easy to read my limited vocabulary, and to understand what i wanna ask.

    Thanks, guys ....

you're almost my shoes. it seems like a really sweet deal when you get a semi-working v12 or v13 but its like throwing a dart at the dart board with your eyes closed.

anyway, 7000x is a v13. v12 and v13 are the most problematic (hardware speaking) out of all of the slim versions.

    troubleshoot the following:
    A. if you insert a disc and see a black screen on your tv then the laser is fully dead.

A1. if your laser is only able to read dvds but no cd discs or vice versa then your laser is semi-dead but needs to be replaced.

    B. if you listen closely to your console at boot up and hear worm motor trying move the laser then you just need the laser replaced (not hard at all!).

    C. if you don't hear any small motor like noises at boot up then the cdvd controller is probably fried. this is a familiar problem that first started with v9-v11 consoles and it definitely overlaps with the v12-v13. the reason is that there's perhaps too much voltage goes to the power driver chip (RS2004FS) and in turn it burns out the laser coils leaving you with a real pain in the ass repair task.

i could be wrong here but the LA chip (which controls the movements of the worm motor as it moves the laser back and forth) is also affected too?

    D. there is also the chance that the spindle hub & motor (what makes the disc spin when you close the lid) may be mis-aligned and will create deep ring scratches all around the disc that you insert.

    repair:
A-B.simply buy a laser replacement on ebay. i bought mine for $8 with free shipping. make sure that you order from a seller that lives in the same country and not from china. search this keyword at youtube "polarcontrols."

    C. if the worm motor or any small motor like sounds are not heard at boot up then the BA chip will need to be replaced before you introduce a new laser or it will be fried too. the BA chips can be found @ divineo.com and you will need to know how to solder in order to replace the chip.

there are also a couple of fixes to applied after your repair to avoid the same issue again.

    D. ebay for a new spindle hub & motor unit.

lastly you can buy a complete laser deck/block replacement that has everything that you need (excluding a BA replacement).

if you don't have fmcb installed on your memory card then you probably do have a modchip. check out openPS2loader aka OPL v0.7 as this game loader is so much better than using usbAdvance/eXtreme and is also mod-chip friendly!.

ok i need to clarify a couple of things here. the RS2004FS chip is indeed the laser and motor driver chip (mechanics controller chip aka "mechacon?"). either the laser dies independently or it dies due to the fried RS200FS chip leaving both permanently damaged.

the LA6508 chip is the power driver chip on the older v9-10 PS2s. nonetheless the inherent hardware failure is obvious by the same patterns. i needed to clarify this because certain sites or forum user posts still do not know that the LA6508 chip is not a v12 mobo (motherboard) but rather the RS2004FS chip is.

the romeo fix only works on the v9-11 PS2s but i think that the pupazzo fix is the ideal fix for RS200FS chip.

anyway, i wanted to clarify this so that you can get a better understanding of the common flaws related to the PS2 v12 laser issues. as i said before, if you do hear a small motor like noise during boot up (despite that the laser is dead) then you're ok! the pupazzo laser fix can be applied.

you can buy repair parts from these sites,
    http://stores.ebay.com/RichsPSXParts-com-Store
    http://store.richspsxparts.com/v12laser.html
    http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/search.html

i uploaded a small zip file containing the pupazzo fix diagrams.

WOW, thanks for all this info.

Hope he will do something with it.

    And now, since you said

if you don't have fmcb installed on your memory card then you probably do have a modchip. check out openPS2loader aka OPL v0.7 as this game loader is so much better than using usbAdvance/eXtreme and is also mod-chip friendly!.
There is no chip, we opened it. I do have FMCB on my card.

Can you give me the link to this other program besides USBAdvance, the newest, the best, so i can install it also on my MC and to cover most games....

    Thanks again for everything.

"Open PS2 Loader" (aka: OPL) has its own subforum here at psx-scene, inside the forum for Homebrew/Dev and Emu stuff. So just browse there yourself to download the latest public release, which is now v0.7. (Linking to newer binaries of the ongoing beta development is not permitted.)

    Best regards: dlanor
