PS2 SCPH-5001 Problem

ok i just got this PS2 from someone and it is either a version 9 or 10. ok when i first hooked it up and put in a PS2 game it worked fine for awhile, then the PS2 started making a strange noise (clicking, grinding like noise) and the game stop playing and froze. so i reset the PS2 and it does the weird noise (clicking, grinding like noise) and just stays at the browser screen. if i let it sit for awhile and turm it on it will work for a little while than do the same thing as mentioned before, start making a strange noise (clicking, grinding like noise) and the game stop playing and freezes. anyone have any clue what is wrong with this PS2. it is not modded, has not even been opened up yet and the game is an original PS2 game not a backup. :(

check the disc tray to see if its dirty and checked the game too hope it helps

sounds like you got a laser gear/worm motor drive problem. eject the tray, inside the dvdrom you will see this copper-colored grooved metal cylindrical device. Lubricate that and make sure that the laser gear slides nice and easy over it.

On the side of the laser is an arm that sits on the worm gear, if this is a metal arm instead of the plastic one, try removing laser, bend this arm down a little so it will make better contact with worm gear and replace laser, should fix problem

I had the same problem with my v9. I just cleaned the lens with a qtip and alcohol and it works like new. This combined with the other sugestions should get you up and working. Except for the last post I would try that last.
