Because I don't trust the new v9/10 consoles I decided to buy an old V7 PS2 (US NTSC) on Ebay. Now my question is, does the laserunits (with motor, tray and everything) from a PAL v7 console work in a NTSC v7 console?.

I'm considering exchanging it as I have a pretty much unused PAL laser unit at home, and the NTSC PS2 I'm buying on Ebay probably has been tortured by some kids or something .

(also surprisingly few Ebay sellers are shipping PS2's internationally, it actually was difficult to track down a unit from a seller with better feedback than 80%)

First, what's wrong with v9/10's? A little preventative medicine (look up the Romeo mod), and they're good to go.

Anyway, the components you asked about (motor, tray... ie, the drive unit) are exchangable. The pal/ntsc fix is a mainboard issue, not a laser/drive issue. You should be fine.

    Thanks for the info ..

Back when I ordered the PS2, it seemed still unclear if the romeo mods would hold in the long run. Also some people told me that V9/10 PS2's with modchips have some issues with HD Loader. As I could not get any clear answers fast.. I just decided to get a trusty ol v7 PS2, because I know they are reliable and that I would have spare parts .

Also as I will not be modding the PS2 myself, it is easy to see if a modchip is working like it should.. But if the romeo stuff has not been fixed, then I would notice it when it is already too late

Sure a built in reciever and less noise would have been nice, but only if hd loaders and everything work just as good as they would with a older model PS2 . Now maybe I was misinformed and there is no real issues with the V9/10 PS2's, in that case it sucks for me.. But there is nothing I can do about it now, as I already bought the v7 PS2.
