I had the same prob with mine...You really gotta put it Exactly straight on there. Just hold the tray all the way, start from the beginning, and push it straight on (making sure to hold down tightly so it won't be off track)....It'll work, you just gotta keep fooling with it to get it on correctly.Quote:

What do I put on straight primenal, the laser eye & rails or the whole laser assembly. whats happening is: I boot watching the eye [rom drive cover off] it tries to focus but the eye doesn't track back and forth [looking for data] boots to browser then no data - reading disk then disk read error . Your help is greatly appreciated.Quote:

Oops, I thought you were talking bout the actual Drive..Not the laser. So, you mean the laser eye isn't going up and down to try to read the game? How long have you had this ps2? Have you tried a great quanity of games to check and see if there all like that?Quote:

Most people say that V4 lasers wear out really fast (I had one that lasted 1 and a half years though), but still i'm not sure if that's your problem...Anyways, give me more details...Even if I can't figure it out, there people on here than can.

No the eye tries to focus [up&down] it doesn't move [slide] sideways for tracking data. At boot it flashes red- disk spins- eye stay near the front [hole] of the disk, it does not move along the rails to read the data on the disk[stationary] it moves toward the hole then back out 1/4 in and stays there.?Tried the white wheel at the back trick and the Torx screw on the rail trick NOTHING :(
I'm not real sure, but I don't beleive the eye actually moves back and forth  ....The eye is just simply supposed to remain stationary and go up and down to read the disc (I THINK)...Don't hold me to that statement ;) . Whenever I had my ps2 apart though...My eye never moved back and forth I don't beleive...But my memory is about equal with a 90 year old man
Sorry Primenal, what I mean is it slides along the two outside rails. If you look downon the laser it moves two ways up&down[focus] back&forth[tracking] back&forth meaning in toward the cd [center hole] and out toward the ouside edge of the cd. Does this explain what I mean? Careful with the old man jokes I turned 51 3 days ago LOLOLQuote:
