Prologue: Last night, played Tony Hawks Underground backup - everything fine, perfect even. Loads immediately, no problems.

Tonight: I put the disk in the drive, no loading. "Funny", I think to myself, so I try another disk. Nothing. I wait a while, 2 minutes. Still nothing. The PS2's drive won't even check to see if any disk is in it, after it has been closed. To test further, I put in an xbox demo disk. Same, nothing.

This has happened suddenly, completely out of the blue. I have had zero problems with my PS2 and the drive so far. I use only the best Ritek G04 disks for my backups, and also use the originals from time-to-time too.

Has something inside failed? There are no indications that something is wrong from the outside, nor when the PS2 is displaying its logo etc at the start. Has anyone else had this problem? It's really weird that it has not been touched since last night when it was working, to today, where it is not recognising that a disk is in its drive.

    Oh yeh, my PS2 is a V.4 with a Messiah 2 Pro.

    Thanks for any suggestions/answers.

when it starts up do you hear any clicking noise or even see the memory card show up?
I thought saving 15% on my car insurance was good but having my ps2 modded by N£TM£ÇH was way better!

No clicking noise, memory card works fine, I can see all of its contents. It doesn't spin the disk at all once it has been inserted to try and read it, it just sits there.

Um, haven't looked, but it's stopped so suddenly, surely not? But I'll have a look anyway. Thanks

Ok, I've had a look with the DVD case off, and the spindle in the middle comes up after the drive has been closed, as would be expected, the laser comes on for about half a second and the spindle spins too, then both stop completely.

It doesn't just 'die', it wears away gradually, it was working perfectly before...

Ok, i have experienced the prob you described with the laser coming on for a sec and the hub spins for a moment then stops. This happened when i was adjusting the dvd pot on my laser, actually it happend a few times. Each time i just waited a while then cleaned the laser, then it would work again. Dont know what caused it, maybe i adjusted the voltage 2 high for the laser?? Maybe you should lower the voltage, it might work, other than that i dont know, mine just fixed it self.
