I was thinking if the ps2 could work on a monitor through a standalone tv tuner (so no Pc and Dscaler involved ) .From what i read Ps2 outputs image in sync on green (whatever that is ?) and not all monitors or vga boxes have that . I wonder if thats a problem with these tuners. I was thinking of something like Leadtek Tv Pro II or Avermedia Tv box 7 .
It it look better on a monitor and one of this toys than on a tv ?
But wait ,will it work first ?

I've tested (probably another version of) Aver TVBox for few hours. I don't remember if the box makes proper de-interlacing, but using PlayStation 2 S-Video cable gives pretty good results on a LCD screen. I should stress LCD, however, as not all boxes do refresh rate up-scaling and 60Hz on a CRT is a suicide.

Best try before you buy :-)

Thinking how a tv has 50 hz, i say 60 is pretty good having in mind i will be using it as a tv so i'll stand at 5 meters from it .
I need a tv and i thought a refurbished 21" crt and a standalone tuner will do the trick and allow some HD movies and who knows maybe even a Ps3 or Wii.
But for the moment i want it to do 2 things ..work well with Ps2 and get good tv signal .All sounds good on paper but i've been told the tv signal is really a problem with these tuners. It may look worse than on a cheap tv . And i don't know if ALL Ps2 games work without glitches and if it will look a lot better on the monitor than tv so it's worth the effort .
Theoretically ,the image on a crt monitor should be better than on tv right ?

IMHO, a TV at 50Hz is much better than CRT monitor at 60Hz. It flickers, yes, but it is much more noticable on a CRT monitor. Also, in my experience your expectations of tuner quality are well-grounded. Not that such tuners are bad quality, but they are more prone to interferences.

Regarding whether games would work or not, there is no reason to worry, as it converts video signal so it can be displayed on your monitor. Nothing more. No bootable CDs or anything like that.

So, generally, you'll probably have better-looking games, but worse-looking TV compared to an average TV-set.

In any case I would advise you to try before you buy. I used to have plans to get one of these, but after few tests in the shop with a regular CRT monitor I went home empty handed. Flicker is really very annoying.
