PS2 Maintenance??? –
I have had my PS2 Ever since it came out, and im reading on a lot of other forums that they get dusty and the lasers get messed up and all kinds of problems people are having.
Im just wondering what?s the best way to keep your PS2 in tip-top-shape?
Keep it out of dusty places(like floors!), and vacuum the front vents if they are dusty. If there is a lot of dust in the machine AND you know what you are doing, you can vacuum the inside too(just pick the biggest dust deposits, the rest is harmless if the PS2 works). NEVER blow the machine with compressed air - the dust can land on the laser lens, and then you have to clean it too (and yes, I clean all the machines I service with air, but I also clean the laser lens. If it reads fine, it's just unnecessary hassle). Just vacuuming the big dust deposits is ok (watch the fan with a vacuum cleaner, the suction makes it spin very fast and may damage it). Even quite new PS2:s are sometimes full of dust, which makes it run hotter. As long as there are no problems, cleaning is all I recommend as maintenance.
The first PS2:s at the time when they came out are pretty reliable. The problems with PS2:s are more because of the terrible, cheap manufacturing of the new models.
