Hello there, my issue is i tried to Disk swap my PS2 so i can install free MCBoot but now my PS2 will not read discs at all. ( i don't really know how i failed to swap the discs but i did) So i was wondering should i buy a solderless modchip (if i can find one) and see if that could save it or just buy a used ps2 slim and try again?

well if its not reading discs buying a mod chip isnt going to help

I would check that the disc open tab isnt damaged

and that all ribbons and cables are properly seated for the laser

if this is the case, i would then try cleaning the laser...

some more details would be helpful on what ya all did to it

well after it stop reading discs i cleaned the laser but that still didn't work. Now i have this really odd issue where the lens seems to smash against the disc (or at lease that's what i believe) it'll spin for a couple of seconds and you can even see the red laser through the disc but after that the disc stops. Also i tried playing with the white gear in the back (forgot the name) that doesn't work either laser/lens would smash against the CD or it just won't read. Cables for the laser were never removed.

Even if you can't get the laser working, your ps2 is not dead. Thanks to FMCB it is still possible to use a ps2 without a laser. I have two ps2's that won't read disks but I still use them to play games from the HDD using OPL or watch movies using SMS or to play games using any of the emulators available for ps2. You can't use a ps2 with a broken laser to install FMCB, but once you have FMCB, it will work on your ps2.

Yes, if you can manage someone installing FMCB on a memory card for you, then you will be all set.
