You can use non-Sony HDD with either the hacked tools available or installing the DMS V2.0 or V9 specific.
In regards to the Save games to the HDD, it's a 2 part question depending on what your question really meant.
1) No, you cannot "save" an entire game to your HDD and run it from the HDD, the function simply won't exist as games expect to be run from the drive.
2) It is possible to save "save game files" to the HDD as if it were a Mem card, but you will need to have the game either support that feature, or you have to copy the files manually from the browser.
i was takeing about saving game data so how would i get this hack for the hdd and where would i buy the hdd
you can get the homebrew hdd explorer software from here:
http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showth...threadid=17229
you will need an official sony network adapter, a working hdd (sony or not is fine), and either a DMS chip or knowledge of running homebrew apps. you will need to manually transfer your memsave folders between your memcard and your hdd. i do not think there is a simple hombrew app to do this, so you will need the filebrowsers for both and know how to use them.
otherwise, you can wait till march, get an official sony hdd for $99, and assuming you already have a sony network adapter, you can use the ps2 / hdd browser and transfer saves through that.
i dont understand how the hdd connects to the network adaptor can u explan
There is 2 plugs that you connect the HDD to in the network adapter. If you have both the NA and the HDD you woulnt be asking...
i know i dont have eather of them i was just wondering so what type of cable do u you need them
You don't need any special cables, the BBA plugs directly into the HDD.
oo ok and how do i get the file browser for the memory card i have one for the hdd
or if anyone knows of any home brewed apps to transfer memory card info to hdd
