Im not sure where you have gotten your info from, but Free McBoot is currently at version 1.8 and doesnt have anything to do with PS2 Game comaptiblity, maybe your refering to ESR and a ESR patched ISO, then burned to DVD.
First upgrade to 1.8, then grab the ESR 9br or the GUI beta from the ESR thread and the ESR Patch GUI.
Install the upgrade by just running the FREE-MCBOOT.ELF and its INSTALL folder, making sure to include the ESR.ELF
Go patch your PS2 game ISO with the ESR Patcher and burn to DVD. Then run the new FMCB 1.8 with the DVD in the tray and like magic, it should automatically boot the disc.
More indepth info can be found in the corresponding threads for each app, in the FreeVast forum.

I think it is possible, that a few games are running 100%properly with a newer FMCB-Version, where they did not in older versions, because of the init-stuff.
Anyway,...
Yes, regardless of the FMCB-Version it should at least start (99.9% no difference).maybe your refering to ESR and a ESR patched ISO, then burned to DVD.
