ps2 freezes

When I first started playing Time Splitters: Future Perfect on my PS2 it was working fine and only froze once in a while in multiplayer, It's slowly gotten worse and now I can barely play. Every time I try to start one of the missions to play it freezes right after it finishes loading. Because it's gotten worse I don't think it's the game thats messed up, my guess is something in the ps2 broke or is breaking. If anyone knows the problem please help me.

It doesn't just freeze for that game, final fantasy 10 used to work fine and now I can't load my game because it will freeze. Also, Killzone never once froze and now it freezes some times.

Please don't post twice. But getting to the point, it sounds to me like your laser might be going. What version ps2 do you have?

Sorry didn't mean to double post, I messed up when i was creating it...
anyway...
its version four, and I considered it being the laser but it can't be because when I run the games off the HDD it's got the same problems.

Wow, that is strange. Is it only recently installed games that are giving you trouble? If not, I'm not sure what can cause freezing problems with cd/dvd games and hd games.
