ps2 failing to boot backups
ps2 failing to boot backups –
10-20-2011,03:10 PM
Hello! My name is James and I'm new here.
I recently went back to play Dragonquest VIII and Tales of the Abyss (NTSC-U) only to be unable to find them. I've moved since I last played then and I suppose they must have gotten lost in the shuffle. I never new that you could back them up using burn discs until just recently.
I've spent many a google hour looking for ways to play back up discs on my ps2. I finally was able to put fmcb on my ps2 memory stick (the noobie package is what i used) only to discover that the discs I was burning wouldn't boot for some reason.
The iso files that I burned for both games were downloaded (since I can't seem to find my legit copies to make the iso from =/ . These downloaded versions had glowing recommendations in the comment sections so I do not think that the problem is with the iso itself (I've tried several different iso now anyways)
When I turn on my ps2 with the back up disc inside the fmcb logo appears then the esr screen appears. Unfortunately when I select "launch CDVD" the game seems to try to boot (disk spins) but all that appears on screen is a black screen (when i tried tales of abyss iso). When I tried the Dragon Quest VIII iso, the screen flashed a few colors, pink and blue among them. then went black. No matter how long I wait the black screen never changes.
I burned onto sony accucore DVD+R disks with my PLDS DVD+-RW DS-8A5SH burner, which I believe is made by Lite-on. Used IMGburn at 4x speed, 3x speed, and 8x speed. All these speeds resulted in the perpetual black screen. I would have tried 2.4x but my drive does not support that speed.
I have spent hours and hours googling for answers to my problem and have come to suspect that the booktype might be the problem. I tried to set is to DVD-ROM but Imgburn won't let me (give the Invalid field in CDB error). I suspect my drive does not support bitsetting despite being (i think) manufactured by Light-on. However, the real problem could definitely be something else which is why I'm posting here.
If you have a possible solution or want me to clarify something _please post_
Thank you so very much for reading this all
~James

first, your PS2 is unlocked with physical chip?
if it is, not need to use the ESR.
second, the ESR can only read the games with the patch, which should be placed on the ISO, on the PC, before burning it.

I'm not sure what you mean by physical chip.
I used the swap trick and a usb stick to install fmcb (noobie package - which says it includes esr) on a ps2 memory stick.
I used Memento to patch the iso files before burning, sorry I forgot to mention that.

in ESR, look down on the media status is recognized or is invalid?
try burning the game on DVD-R media

I read your tut, but i found nothing about that you patch your .iso with ESR-Disc-patcher.....
If you dontīt patch your .iso, then there is your problem.
First you must patch it, before you burn it......

I tried the program you linked. Burned it at 4x speed after patching the iso. Same thing happened. Autolaunched the silvery colored esr screen. I pressed x to launch the game and the screen flashed several colors before going black and staying that way.
