They do. And even if they boot, for example a NTSC J console for China does have a diferent magic gate key than a JP one so a JP utility disc will boot but will then crash in a black screen because the console can't decode the encrypted elf whick boots the disc.

Same reason why a european console will never boot a US HDD utility disc evebn with a modchip. A modded US console can boot a copy of the utility disc though

Not only is the ELF encrypted using MG, they also encrypt the raw binary that the ELF reads from the CD using MG and a second pass of simple XOR encryption done in software.

So PBPX discs are a bit of a mystery then in regard to the region encoding. Wonder if we'll ever know how that part works...

You mean the VOB file it reads from a folder in the disc during the boot ?

I have a decrypted file from the hdd utility disc disc, which means someone figured out this stuff completely, already or just cheated and "stole the candy" from the child by dumping the PS2 RAM while running the utility disc... hehehe

A reference for the product number: http://mirage.just-size.net/slps/num.html

Sony can use any name for the executable(a lot of japanese trial or bonus discs are PAPX or PCPX):

The best thing about the site is the explanation about the meaning of each letter on the code Sony uses on the game code name....

you might want to read this, I don't know what you mean by "wobble", but the author of this stuff says he figured it out, and that it deals with the DSV value, this is a rule that all writers use error correction space up to comply with, no matter what, the dsv value being the ratio of pits to lands on the disc, so that the total reflectivity is always the same, that is an equal number of pits and lands, to protect the reader's lazers. this is a rule that no burner will break. I dunno, read this yourselves.
