i get a grinding laser when a laser dies so i don't know

You could try putting the PS2 upside down or propping it up on tis side with a stand.
i'd suggest a new laser
try to adjust the white cog in the drive.
I don't think it's the laser. There's something else out of alignment. Mine does the exact same thing, but only with the original of Half-Life. If I make a copy, no problem, no noise, no scrapes, nothin.
It's been doing that for at least 6-8 months now, if it was the laser it would be dead already.
The laser can react differently with different types of media. I know that DVD-rips on CD can work that laser big time, that's one reason why I don't mess with em, don't want my laser getting wasted.
i dont use3 dvd rips (huh?) i uses dvd copys and blue copys too
but noe dvd rips i dont trust em
my ps2 once made a grinding noise, and it scratched the hell out of SOCOM, now socom dont play any more
