PS1 memory cards on PS2
PS1 memory cards on PS2 –
I've had a PS2 slim fairly unused for a while, and with a friend gifting me his old PS1 games, I've decided to play them on the PS2. Now, before I start I need to acquire a memory card for it, however I read that the PS2 slim will ONLY work with original Sony PS1 memory cards, while the PS2 fat will work with just every PS1 memory card you use.
Since I haven't been able to find other sources on this, is this true? Does the PS2 slim only works with PS1 memory cards from sony? They are hard as hell to find :/
No. That info is false.

My favorite PS1 MC is one that has the equivalent of 8 normal PS1 MCs inside, and a big LED 1-digit display showing a digit in the range 1 to 8, to show which of 8 'pages' is currently active. This works fine on all PS2 consoles I've had, though I must connect it to a real PS1 whenever I want to shift pages... That's because the page shifting relies on sensing the gamepad port signals, which on a PS1 uses the same internal pins as the MC port. But on a PS2 the MC port is separated from the gamepad port signal-wise, so any MC functionality depending on gamepad signal sensing will fail.
But that is not likely to be a problem with most non-Sony MCs, as I never saw any others that used gamepad input this way. Most of them will simply work, no problem...
That said, there is always a slight risk that some may have exceeded some Sony specification in a way that causes problems on some PS2 models. But I never saw it myself for any PS1 MCs. (Though I have several non-working non-Sony PS2 MCs.)
