Hi,
is there anyway to make the PS2 think that a PS1 controller is actually a Dualshock2 controller? So it works on games that require dualshock 2?
Thanks.

A bike is not a plane.
Indeed but there isn't actually any difference between a PS1 and a PS2 controller is there? Other than the PS2 controller has pressure sensitive buttons, which i don't think anyone ever noticed.
Whether or not anyone noticed it, or if the games even used this feature, that is not relevant here.
What's relevant is whether or not any changes were made to the communication protocol used by the console and the controller to exchange information.
And there is bound to be some modification of that protocol in order to cope with the new capabilities of the new controller...
To some extent the new protocol may be backwards compatible with the old one, which is one reason why some games work fine with either type.
And it should also be possible for the game programs to request controller version info through the protocol, and adapt to the type in use.
But if the game is coded such as to require protocol responses that were not implemented in the old controller, without first testing that a new controller is connected, then the game code may get stuck waiting forever when the old controller type is used.
Best regards: dlanor
Why on earth would you want to do that? You would kill the controller.
