PS-3 Region Free also applies for PS-1 & PS-2 games from any region?

Concerning the news on the upcoming SONY PS-3 being region free, does that also apply for PS-1 & PS-2 games from any region or just for the PS-3 games?

i think its only for ps-3 games and not ps-1 and ps-2 games although the ps3 will be backward compatible with all ps1&2 games....
