Problems since I installed PS2 HDD kit =(

I had a working V7 PS2 modded with a Magic 3.1. Network adapter was ok, and such. I installed my PS2 HDD kit that came with Final Fantasy XI beta. Ever since then, my PS2 has been acting screwy when trying to boot games.

My questions are -

I took out the HDD, I took out the memory. Does the PS2 have some type of flash memory that it writes its drivers to? If so, is their a way to restore them to factory default?

Secondly, how exactly does Magic 3.1 sleep mode work? I know holding the button in for 4 seconds seems to disable the modchip completely. But my question is, how long does it stay disabled?

Lastly, anyone else having odd errors with a Magic 3.1 and the PS2 HDD kit?

i have to take out my hdd to boot gameshark...anyone else have that problem?
