has anyone else heard rumors that there is suppose to be an price drop for the ps2 and xbox right after christmas, early january?

well i am sure there is going to be a price drop for the xbox since xbox 2 is to be released in a year and ps2 is sure to lower their price to compete with xbox sales and the ps3 not offical but to be released around late 2005 to early 2006. but the question is when will these price drops occur. on another forum it said it would drop down to $100 in january but this is not offical so that is why i would like to know if anyone can confirm this

I doubt sony is going to lower the price on a system they just released.

They will not announce a price drop in advance, as this would lower their sales until the drop. With the new slimline PS2 and games like San Andreas out, Sony has no real need to do a price drop, as sales are booming. Microsoft has no real reason either, Halo 2 is selling Xboxes like never before, so their sales are stronger than normal. Also they know a price drop has very limited effects as the competitor will drop their price to match it. Xbox initiated the last drop to boost xbox sales before the end of the quarter, to help Microsoft stock. I would imagine both Xbox and PS2 will have very strong Christmas sales, unless their sales lag, which they wont, I doubt well see a drop in price. They may want to drop it to get a 2nd boost of sales. But then this would limit their future ability to drop. If they dropped to $129.99, they may not be able to drop it at the official announcements of XBox2 and PS3 in the summer, and another drop at the release of the next generation to give the consoles one final boost before they slash their prices and focus on the next gen. So I wouldnt put any bets on a price drop, especially within 30 days of christmas and the post christmas rush caused by money gifts and gift cards, as if the drop were to occur within 30 days, people could potentially get refunded the difference, cutting sharply into the companies profits.

Sony is soo "the King of Style."
I bet Micrsoft felt like shooting themselves when PSTWO came out. It made XBox ugly as hell. Expect a price drop from microsoft in April.

No the PS2 most people would say was better looking than the Xbox, but then most people would say the GC is better looking than either.

Anyone who buys their system based on the look should not be allowed to handle money and possibly sterilized.
