Powersource for LED's... –
I'm remaking a case for my PS2 (I'm very bored lately) and am wanting to install 4 LED's. I got no specs with the LED's I have on hand, or the resistors (no bands), but I know that the combination is wired for (IIRC) 12v, roughly. I think they're around 3.5v, but I don't really know how to test LED's (my first experience with them).
So, basically, this leaves me looking for either a safe 3~4v or a 12v power source inside the PS2. I would like to find something that is under constant power...if I could find a way to wire them to the LED's on the face-plate controls, it would be great, but I don't know if it's safe to tap into those.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!
that's a friggen awesome link, omegatron!! I searched for about 4 hours last night online trying to find a decent 12v or another adequate location. I really appreciate the help!
The startings of my project. The stenciled imagae and the opening on the lower panel will be backed with 1/8" plexi. Then the plexy will be scored just inside the cut-outs to refract light.
Light will come from four ultra-violet LED's. Also will be removing the current fan and installing either a larger lighted fan or two similarly sized ones.
The cutting I did with a Rotozip and a 1/16" blade (or rotory-saw, whatever). Took about 30 minutes to cut, both sides...but it took over 8 hours to draw and apply an adequate stencil. I was going to use a scroll saw and a fine file, but liked the rough image I got with the rotozip. It looks weathered, experienced...so I'm leaving it as it is. I'm about to start painting. It's going to gone over in a light grey...probably grey primer. After the primer sets I'm going to use an acetylene torch to add a few burn and smoke marks (cosmetic effect only, no surface damage will be done). Black simulated rivets will be placed around the extremeties. Then the whole thing will be glazed with a semi-gloss clear coat.
Bonus-points for ID'ing the insignia...
meh...I thought it was cool...
wow that is actually the coolest case cut out i have seen ... cant wait to see it finished
but why uv lights???
I have them.

With some luck, I'll have it done by the end of the week. Next one I do is going to be Ayame in the final pose for one of the stealth kills in Tenchu 4...still working on a decent stencil for that one. Someone has also ordered a case from me to be don't in cherry wood and a dark stain to match his livingroom...going to be hard because he want's the whole thing to be wood...including the mem card covers and the tray face. Fun stuff...
Got it painted and I added the scorch marks. I let a couple of sections get really scorch, to the point of catching teh plastic on fire and then blowing it out real fast...had a VERY cool effect. Still got to add the faux-rivets and clear coat it. Also picked up the plexi today...I'm using 3/32 sheeting...gonna be a very tight fit but I think it'll work ok.
Sorry about the fuzzy pics...trying to get them uploaded lost some of the detail...
