    Hello,

1 year ago i brought a ps2 slim, second hand, with swap magic 3.6 to a Romanian kid, now, the swap magic dvd broken (not even is readable from my laptop)...

    The situation NOW:

1- the mother can't buy another swap magic (earn 150euro/month and 30 euro for a new swap magic is too much)...
2- the kid have already plenty of dvd and reburn all or a part for freemcboot+esr is too expensive (money and time)...

SO, i tried to use 2 swap magic elf i found online, i installed in the memory card the mcfreebot to use easily ulaunchelf and to use esr for the games i will burn in future for this kid...

    THE PROBLEM:
both swap magic elf, not work (loaded from mc or from usb), one blink the screen then stuck with black screen, another, show the main logo of swap magic, but then bloc with black screen.

    HELP I NEED:

I need a way to have a swap magic working (elf, iso, etc...)... i try also to patch with esr a swap magic 3.6 iso i found online, but the patcher give an error "udf descriptor missing", something like this...

I don't know what to do...

    Any help - suggestion, please?

Maybe is possible to recreate an iso patchable with esr from the wap magic iso i have already?

or i don't know... maybe i mistake something in how i use the wasp magic elf?

    Thank you, best regards.

You can swap with "unofficial LaunchELF" also.

    1. Start uLE and configure the Disc-Control-Option to ON.
    2. If you want, map a button to "PS2Disc" (Filebrowser --> MISC --> PS2Disc).
    3. Save your configuration (exit to main-screen) and restart uLE.
    4. Insert a Big-TOC-Disc (to swap with), wait until the disc stops, perform the swap-trick.
    5. Start "PS2Disc".

Ok, so this rules out all solutions that cost similar amounts of money.

2- the kid have already plenty of dvd and reburn all or a part for freemcboot+esr
I'm not sure I understand you correctly here.

Having used SwapMagic so far, I would expect the kid to have only non-patched backup discs, but here you say that he either already has, or is making, or is ready to make ESR-patched backups instead. The precise meaning is unclear with your use of grammar here.

SO, i tried to use 2 swap magic elf i found online, i installed in the memory card the mcfreebot to use easily ulaunchelf and to use esr for the games i will burn in future for this kid...
Ok, so the plan is to use ESR for future games, but continue to use swap methods for the games he already has. Personally I think this is a bad idea, and it would be better to adopt the ESR method for all games. You could start by first making an ESR disc of his favourite game, to give him something to play until you get time to convert the others.

Btw: I hope we are here talking about games to which you own the originals (or the kid does), since anything else would fall under the heading of piracy, and cause this thread to be closed. I always use the 'benefit of doubt' rule myself, but others are more aggressive about it...

    THE PROBLEM:
both swap magic elf, not work (loaded from mc or from usb), one blink the screen then stuck with black screen, another, show the main logo of swap magic, but then bloc with black screen.
Since others report such elfs as working you must either be doing something wrong, or have bad elf versions. Lots of people use such elfs, so with the proper elfs and using them correctly they can be made to work. But I can't guide you there as I never use swapping methods myself.

    HELP I NEED:

I need a way to have a swap magic working (elf, iso, etc...)... i try also to patch with esr a swap magic 3.6 iso i found online, but the patcher give an error "udf descriptor missing", something like this...
That is an error message common to all attempts to patch a CD disc ISO. SwapMagic always comes with 2 discs when bought commercially. One disc for swapping CDs, and another for swapping DVDs. The program is the same for both, but the pressed SwapMagic disc needs to have a TOC of the same type as the burned game backup, which is why both a CD and a DVD disc are included in the real SwapMagic package.

To ESR-patch it you would need a DVD disc ISO, with the standard ISO+UDF layout as used by all PS2 games on DVD, and I'm not sure if the SwapMagic ISO you speak of can be converted to a DVD ISO and still work properly. I'm also not sure if an ESR-patched SwapMagic really works right, for proper disc validation, but in any case it can only be used for swapping backups on DVD, but never for backups on CD.

Another way to do it, assuming you can find a good SwapMagic elf, is to run that elf with a pressed original disc in the console (same as when previously using the pressed original SwapMagic disc), and then switch as usual to the non-patched backups. And this should allow the kid to swap in both DVD and CD discs, provided that he has at least one original pressed game disc of each kind, with a large TOC (needed for swapping other large-TOC games). One for CD swapping and another for DVD swapping.

You were not very clear in your description above, but I suspect that you may have tried using the SwapMagic elf without ANY original disc in the tray, which is impossible. The swapping depends on letting the CDVD controller first 'see' a valid pressed original disc in the tray, and thereafter switch to a burned backup disc without having the controller notice the swap, so that it considers the disc in tray to still be the same original disc that was validated earlier. But doing this without a valid original disc to begin with is obviously not possible.

I don't know what to do...

    Any help - suggestion, please?

Maybe is possible to recreate an iso patchable with esr from the wap magic iso i have already?

or i don't know... maybe i mistake something in how i use the wasp magic elf?
The latter is what I suspect, as detailed above.

    Best regards: dlanor

Are you sure that this swap method really works on all console models ?

I never use swapping myself, but from what I've heard simplified swap methods like this one only work on a few of the models. But possibly I've confused that with the PSX-disc swapping, since both are just hearsay to me (and going to stay that way too).

    Best regards: dlanor

    You can do the fallowing.

Launch ESR- mem version- and have ANY PATCHED disc (game or elf) in the tray... NO MATTER THE SIZE!!!! (TOC is not important).

When you u are in ulaunch (ule) make sure that disc_control is on.

Use any swap metode u like to swap the disc.

go to the cd/dvd map and there you should see the files from ur new dvd/cd disc. No matter if it is patched or not.

launch what ever loader file u may have (elf. cnf. slus.....)

and vupti... ur game is loading...

in this way, u dont have to use any retail game, and only use 1 patched game(4 all yours unpatched games, even imported ones).
and there is no need for swap magic or any other swap programs.... Ulaunch does all the job...and of course ESR-mem ver. :0)

I hope that this is what u are looking 4!!!
and remember---- only to be used if you allready have the ratail copy... downloaded or borrowed games is FORBIDDEN!

ps: YOU NEED TO HAVE A "SWAP" METODE AT HAND!!!
(knife trick, a cut plastic card or flip-top... many choises)

    No.
I believe, those who want to swap with uLE first need to enter cdfs: after swapping.

Btw.: @mumi: The Video-DVD-Swap also works with normal Video-DVDs of course and you donīt even need any original PS2-Game to swap with + the TOC-Size of that disc doesnīt matter in any way,...
