    Hi

I recently saw a new PS2 silver in the stores. It can play DVD-R's too. I haven't updated myself about ps2 for a while now so i had no idea what that was...

And the most obvious question is can it play backups without mod-chip? I doubt that sony wouldnt do such a stupid thing but there is always a hope But the ps2 silver was an official sony product. I didn't find anything on the net though, only some frech sites which i didn't understand a shit of...

NOOO. WTH hell would Sony make it so you could play backups.. That would be pretty stupid...

AFAIK it's a V7 with just a silvercover. But I have also heard it's silent. Someone can correct me if this is wrong...

I forgot to say that all PS2's can read DVD-R, but only movies. Unmodded that is...

coloured PS2's, they released a whole batch of them in Japan, there are some here in Malaysia actually (in blue particularly). If it can play DVD-R games, then it's got to be modded. It should be modded anyway if you're in the US since a Japanese PS2 will only play Japanese games.

I don't recall SCEA releasing a coloured model for the US so it's got to be Japanese.

What the **** is this shit ?

OK first of all, like bighap pointed out, all PS2's run DVD-R, I just finished playing a DVD backup of Freedom Fighters on my V1.

I'm not too sure what the difference in price between the models is actually paying for though, besides a nice shiny silver case. In the UK you can buy a standard console with a free Eyetoy, Memory Card, and copy of Tomb Raider for £149.99 right now, but from Monday, when the silver one launches, you can get that solus for £189.99

I can't imagine it really being able to do anything more than the others, any significant improvement to the hardware or capabilities would require a complete re-haul in the way that the PS2 works, so unless they have improved the DVD Playing capabilities to something which is not by far inferior to a cheap-ass supermarket player, I'm thinking that there isn't gonna be any difference.
Why the **** would I want a Caravan that's got no ****in' Wheels ?

Here's a general review of the spec for the UK model. I'm not sure about the NTSC version though.

    Model Number SCPH-50003 SS
Built in IR receiver for remote control.
-RW and +RW compatible therefore allowing DVD-RW/+RW playback.
    Lower Noise Operation.
