Yes, backups can be played online.
I've heard rumors of Everquest detecting your modchip, though. Anyone care to share a little more info?

Does Everquest detect the modchip if you do the PSX boot method on an original? If so, I guess it's probably a good idea for me to install a switch on my modchip...

As far as I know there are currently no switches for PS2. And no I haven't been able to boot this with any of the methods i've tried, maybe the Messiah 2's disable function will work.

Even though it's not the most glamourous way to do it, I was just going to install two 24-pin dip switches between my modchip and the ps2 board. There is room to mount the set of switches on the back of the PS2, I'd just have to make sure that every switch is either on or off. I've been considering this for a while, but with the new anti-mod games that are just around the corner, I'm a little more convinced. (Though, I should just buy another PS2 and save myself some trouble)

    Hey wait?!?
isn't PS2 online games require a serial number to play backup or original game?

Phantasy star online in DC was asking serial number to register and play...
