This is really a stupid question for all of you braniacs out there. Internal DVD-R means you have to install them into your tower or PC? Lots of Laughs everybody. I just wanted to know so I wont make any stupid mistakes getting a DVD Burner.

Yeah, it's alright man, i remember when i knew little or basically nothing about computers, and the guy bought my monitor said something along the lines of 17" VGA CRT monitor, and i was like, wth is that? Things always change in the computer world, as i say, it's dog years, one year is really several technological leaps. If your getting a DVD burner, try TRY! to get one with dual layer ability & upgradable firmware, which should only add 10-20 bucks ontop of a decent brand burner.

Yea it is.. i guess you dont necesarrily need to though. I have lots of CD drives connected that is lying around the place . i dont think you'd have to worry about the lasers (correct me if im wrong).. especially as they arent supposed to be directed out the drive at any place even if internal drives typically have holes every which way.
but if youre a decent human being who like to have things where they are supposed to be short answer is yes; internal inside box, external outside box
