    where do I start?

Small story first, purchased a used ps2 from a kid online he told me he might have ruined it trying to install a mod chip, anyway he was right he destroyed the mobo via poor soldering

I want to find a replacement mobo & fix this

    where do i start?

Hmm, personally I have no idea... ebay might be a good place, but mobo are an ultra rare source of product to find (you will see that most vendors sell many other ps2 parts, but no mobo). It is the most rarest to buy, because no 3rd party can replicate it (with pretty good demand for it aswell due to situations like this - I want one aswell), so even if you find one, you are likely to face high charges to have it.

If you know what the problem of the mobo is, and you have the equipment, I guess you can attempt to fix it first (I'm rubbish with those sort of stuff btw)?

Or, you can buy another faulty ps2 but making SURE before you buy that the mobo is working AND compatible. Just keep in mind of your mobo version. Each motherboard interface is different and if you buy the wrong one, then you can't really "merge" the 2 ps2s into one. Some are compatible with others, so just check first.
