There's an exploit with the ps2 pal network disc that allows you to browse webpages by changing your ps2 network ip address settings to a certain address, i'll try and find it again.

There's also the posibillity to have Linux run on the PS2, I think there should be a browser within. Unfortunatly it runs only from HDD.

you can fit everything into initrd (with some careful preparation) and keep both on pendrive.

i'll try making one with elinks someday, since free ps2 linux kernel loader is already available.

I've got ahold of latest version of NAD, patched it so that it would open google.com. From testing i can say that it has serious render problems, don't support charsets, very slow, and occasionally hanging up PS2. Maybe beta NAD didn't have this problems?

Hey, that would be GREAT! Maybe LiveCD would be also possible?

    not really.

livecds work by using some system ram as data storage (virtual layer over cd which stores changes done to the livecd filesystem by the user/system after boot). ps2 has very little ram so it's not reasonable to do it this way. (unless we can apply some XIP techniques, but that would require building a fairly fresh linux-tiny kernel branch).

also, you would need a modded console.

i'd rather stick it all into small initrd (which would consume as little ram as possible), or have it run off usb stick/hdd.

still i have to get proficient will cross compiling stuff for ps2 to start doing anything ;-)

elinks works pretty cool when viewing these forums. and by being a text-mode browser it doesn't waste ram on images/flash anims. i use it on my secondary linux box (p2 366mhz, 256 133mhz ram) on a daily basis and i think ps2 would also work neatly with it.

not really, just the ps2sdk to have a ps2 toolchain and i think i can take it from there with CLFS manual, adapting its pointers to my needs ( http://trac.cross-lfs.org/ )

    Brookfresh - http://www.brookfresh.co.uk/

This works with the PAL NAD. Try again with the Brookfresh site, but I am using NTSC so this is just something I caught in my PS2 research but never was able to test. Actually it looks like with some network gyrations it might work for NTSC after all. Maybe I'll test.

I assume you are using a Slim and therefore a hard drive is not possible except through a USB-connection. Megaman has been working hard on getting a USB-hard drive version of his kloader PS2-Linux bootloader for the Slims. He is still active in the forums so hopefully he is still working on the problem - http://mitglied.lycos.de/ps2dev/linux.html

More up-to-date kloader Slim info from Megaman:
    http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.p...49e8715628f1fc

When Megaman gets this working, I can recommend running BlackRhino PS2-Linux with the Dillo browser - I got the latest/fully patched version to compile with some effort - http://teki.jpn.ph/pc/software/index-e.shtml

you still need the web browser from network adapter disk.

unfortunately my network adapter came with ntsc dvd so i cannot use it. (unless it works via hdloader).

yeah, dillo is pretty neat, but it has a lot of problems with rendering page layout and such. and you also need mouse to use it effectively. i prefer elinks, and that's what i'm going to try to build for ps2 soon with small linux initrd
