New to Ps2 modding

I interested in modding my ps2. I have some experience in xbox software modding but I don't no alot about the ps2. What I looking for is the cheapest and easiest way to mod my ps2 using software exploits to play backed up games without any modchips or anything. I also want to know if it is possible to rip the games onto a harddrive where I could play them in the future like on the xbox. If you need to know what version my ps2 is, it it one of the older models. I think it was the v1.0 or somewhere close to that, im not sure.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I didn't know which one to put it in and I thought I could get more help from this section.

I have heard of swpmagic before is it with the cd you order off of the internet?
I can't order anything of the internet, I can only use stuff they sell at my local electronic stores like action replay and stuff.

u have to order it. i don't think they sell it in physical stores. u have to order it off the net. www.gocybershop.ca. get swapmagic with the fliptop case.

you see I had one of these swpmagic things to help me play backups but the thing is that it worked find for a wile but after 2 month it takes like 5 to 10 trys untill i can get it to play the back ups. anyway the bootrate is very bad after a wile. (Mabe it is just me, don't know, just thougt it would be good for you to know.)

I am not sure of the new swpmagic but If i were you i will just get it moded. Magic slim is the best of the cheapese chips that i know off. and you can get it moded for just about $20USD if you provide the chip. Matrix Infinity is the chip that i just got for my Ps2 SLim V12. for what i have read it is better than magic chip.
