Even IGN (which is very high-profile, mainstream, and therefore wouldnt normally touch the subject) mentioned this possibility. Who knows, we'll see.

I take offense to this. Not all use the ps2 to warez game discs. Many sceners like to play homebrew and retro games.

Even playing ROMS is to a degree illegal....
The facts are, that most people in this scene have modchips, and have at least once played a backup that they do not actually own. There's nothing wrong with this at all to me, but if your gonna do it, just admit that sony doesn't like our group and that we are not angels.
G made us out to be completely law abiding people. He brainwashes the masses with his BS, and appoints himself the savior of the scene and the rent-a-cop.

Come on now, Sony wouldn't let that slide. I'm sure the PSTwo will "know" when the top is opened... Kinda like the PS1. This new model will render Flip-Tops, Swap Magic discs and HDLoader useless. However, the current PS2 models will still be available, the PSTwo will just be a "budget" console for those who don't care about HDDs and like the compact size. So we will still have the option.

1. No one is an angel. But if you can't admit playing backups you don't own is
wrong, so that at least there is a little angel inside your head trying to get
you to do the right thing, then one wonders about your values.
2. G did not make the scene out to be law abiding. He set standards, perhaps
too high for some people, as a goal worthy of reaching. People need to be
reminded from time to time the impact their actions have.
3. On the other hand, are you making the scene out to look like non-law
abiding people ? Because if it is non-law abiding, then the scene isn't
worth much. Who should this website cater too ? People who try to be
law abiding, but might slip occasionally here and there, but are reasonably
sincere as most people tend to be ? Or people who are really out for
themselves and in general don't care ?

Wrong on all for #3. This site is for people who enjoy hacking and modifying their ps2's.
I have no problem with admitting I play saved games on my hdd rented from blockbuster, or that I play downloaded full movies, mp3s, or roms on it. What I was saying is that is shameful for those who act like they dont on these boards, or set the standards not to, when in fact everyone does it.

Duh...The main reason $ony decided to create a new version with a top is to stop people from using swapMagic Disk...Like Maven said....this system wouldn't work with all the methods people are currently used...The only hope is someone/team create another chip to work with this....

actauly, i bet the main reason decided to make a new version is MONEY. and in the sake of size, i bet that a tray loading cdrom would have been too big for it, prompting the implementation of a fliptop. sony aren't stupid enough to put a fliptop on without having extra protection against swap magic and simmilar. i'll put 20 bucks that current swap magic discs won't work.
