whenever i connect the ps2 to my laptop via a crossover cable i loose connection to the internet and network files. Is there any way to stop this, its as if when a network cable is in it ignores the wireless connection to my network

It sounds like it might be an IP address conflict. I had a similar problem where my main PC has a wireless card and a wired card connected to the router and it was trying to use the same ip. I changed the ip of the wired card and it works great.
most likely a routing issue or the incorrect default gateway. whats your ip structure.

disable DHCP of the wired router, assuming wireless connection is also connecting to a wireless router, like I do, only one DHCP server per network, or you'll have a BIG conflict of adresses. I also changed to a static adress for the wired, DHCP disabled, router.
