If your going to use FMCB I'd definitely suggest a fat one as well. I decided pretty quickly I was going to sell my slim because I want the superior hd speed ide offers.

    Whooah!!!
Hold it right there for a moment...!!!

So you're saying that someone is now selling memory cards with FMCB pre-installed. Right ?
And probably charging an extra hefty price on account of that installation... Right ?
That development is not really surprising, but depressing none the less.

I hope you didn't pay too much for it, as FMCB is released as freeware on this site.

and then i bought a game which says esr before it starts ...
So someone is selling pirated ESR-patched game copies as well...
Note that this is not something sanctioned by this site, nor by the creator of ESR.

now what i want to do i want to get new games... is it possible to download and burn...?
    Hold it right there again...!!!

Getting new games by downloading and burning is software piracy, which is cause for banning on this site. So you'll get no help with such issues here.

If you want to hang around here and get help with legitimate FMCB and ESR issues, that's fine, but you'd better stick to those legal issues or you'll soon find yourself banned. And this means that you have to own a legal original disc of every game you want to use in the form of an ESR backup.

Yeah, people have been auctioning off FMCB MC's which I've been reporting them to ebay. so far I'm keeping the US version of it clean, but I would hope that others in other regions would do the same to keep their version of ebay clean of them as well. This week I've reported two auctions back to back.

Sure, that can be very good, especially if you get a network adaptor for it as that also contains the IDE HDD interface needed for HDLoader.

In fact buying it used is probably your only way of getting one in this day and age, since the last fat PS2 consoles were replaced by slim PStwo consoles a long time ago. I don't think you can find a NEW fat PS2 anywhere today.

The only real drawback of buying a used console is that you don't know what it's been through, or how long a lifespan still remains for the CDVD laser, the most critical component of a PS2. But for a fat PS2 which you equip with an HDD that issue becomes less critical, as you won't be using the CDVD drive much anymore, playing all the games from HDD.

As for chipping the console, that is really optional today, as you can get nearly all the same features with FMCB (basic MC boot system) and ESR (makes burned discs readable). There are just a few features that you'd miss out on, such as playing out-of-region PS1 imports and burned CD backups (ESR only works for DVD, but not CD). But the general goal today should be to avoid using the CDVD drive anyway, so as to prolong the life of the console, and then those features don't really matter much.
