Need help: my ps2 cant read any disc...what should I do? –

My ps2 is chipped. It is about less than one year old.
Today, suddenly, it stops reading any discs (cd, dvd, original, backups)
I could heard the discs was spinning in the drive, but in the brower, it shows "reading disc..." forever.
I heard that there is a chip in the newer model of ps2, which is in charge of the laser, could easily be burned down. Is this what my problem is?
And if it is, where is the chip located? on the motherboard or on the disc driver? I got unmodded ps2, if that chip was on the driver but not on the motherboard, I guess I could replace the motherboard.
Thank you. I know my english is bad, hope people could understand me.
