Need Help with my PS2

Whats wrong with my PS2? Everytime I insert a CD or DVD Games I always see the message PLEASE INSERT A PLAYSTATION or PLAYSTATION 2 FORMAT DISC but when I turn on the PS2 without the CD or DVD then go to BROWSER and a CD or DVD Game it will detect, then I press the X BUTTON then I will see again PLEASE INSERT A PLAYSTATION or PLAYSTATION 2 FORMAT DISC

I put a Audio CD and Playstation (one) game and it plays OK . . .
(my PS2 is Modded)

more info would be a VERY good start. e.g. version, what chip, who modded it etc...

it sound like your laser needs cleaning but like wozza2 said we need more info

Your laser is dying... get a new one or fix the old one (which you can sometimes do)... but yeh supply you version and shit...
