You must be extremely proficient at soldering - since the PS2's components are very tiny and sensitive to heat.

You must also know where to solder the wires that connect the mainboard to the Romeo fix circuit board (It does vary from PS2 model to PS2 model).

This fix is only applicable for SCPH-5x00x consoles. The v12-v13 slimlines have a different problem, and the Romeo fix isn't effective.

What the posters who posted before your 3 previous posts meant was to look around this forums - because your question had been answered before.

I hope I'm not hijacking your thread but I have a small question of my own,

I have a slim PS2(SCPH-70006, modded, 3 years old), does using a Dual Layer DVD in any way reduce the lifespan of my Laser or damage it?

If that console is one of those consoles that were really badly designed and built (The MECHACON was really badly "sabotaged")... not really .

Just use legit discs. They'll guarantee that your laser will have the longest lifespan.

    Use high quality discs too.

Although it's not necessary for an unmodded to have the Romeo fix, it's a good idea just to keep your laser safe.

Well, since the problem/failure arises from the laser-intensity/strength it would make no differentce if the console is modded or not, since the laser-intensity is more defined by the 'media' (CD-R, DVD-R,...) in use.

To prevent the Laser-&BA-Failure, I think it would be necessary to do it on every of those affected models.

...of course a modchip can make things even worser...

Ive seen UNMODDED 50xxx killing lens bobbins and LA6508 after a few hours playing ORIGINALS.

As TnA said, if you have a 50 FIX IT, dont even ask!!!

You need to reduce LA6508 incoming voltage thru pin 17 to 5v.
The 2 ways to do it:

1- lift up pin 17 and connect it to PS8 or any other 5v point if you can test it.

    OR:

2- Cutting (at the other side) the MoBo to connect LA`s via to 5v.

Select just one and do iT.

    Always put a 0,5A fuse replacing PS11(2A!!!)

    And your 50 its eternal.
