need help getting online

yesterday i purchased a ps2 with a netwok adapter included. ive been trying to get online with it but cant get it to connect. I have cox highspeed internet (cable) and a terayon modem. btw ive called cox and sonys tech support but they couldnt help me. was hoping someone on this forum could help me. im pretty sure the modem is not communicating with the ps2 would a router help?

Simple tip, when you connect the Ethernet cable to the PS2 unplug the Cable Modem and reconnect it, then you should be able to go online, this will reset the modem and put set the settings for the PS2, just like I do. But if you get a router it will be better.
